“What can I do to keep my flowers looking their best after my wedding ?

Caring for your flowers after your wedding

After your wedding, keep your flowers somewhere cool and dry. A room with air conditioning, an outside covered porch or a garage would be ideal.

NEVER spray your flowers with water as moisture trapped in the creases of the flowers can affect the preservation process.

You may put your flowers in a fridge BUT ONLY IF the fridge is big enough to accommodate your flowers and foliage without any of them touching the walls of the fridge otherwise your flowers will be damaged. The temperature of the fridge must not be below 5 degree Celsius.

DO NOT put your flowers in a freezer as you will damage them permanently.

If possible, keep your flowers watered during your wedding reception to stop your flowers from wilting.

If you have a hand-tied bouquet, place the stems in a vase of water. Don’t worry about your ribbon getting wet – we can clean it afterwards if needs be.

If your bouquet has oasis in the handle you can pour a small amount of water onto the oasis to keep it moist. Take care not to splash your flowers in the process.

 Bouquet Packaging Instructions

“How do I get my flowers to your Studio after my wedding ?”

1. You will need a sturdy cardboard box either with a lid or one with flaps that can be sealed to put your flowers in. This should be large enough to comfortably accommodate your flowers. You may if you wish strengthen the corners of the box using lengths of dowel but this is not essential. Ideally, the flowers need to be placed upright in the box to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on the flowers -  a cardboard florist’s vase or something similar will support the flowers very nicely.

2. If sending a hand-tied bouquet, soak a few sheets of kitchen roll with water and wrap around the stems. Than place a small plastic food bag or similar around the stems of the flowers and the kitchen roll (but not around the flowers) to help with moisture retention whilst in transit. If you are sending a shower type bouquet where the flowers are pushed into green oasis, please top up the oasis with some more water before packing.

3. Make a nest in the bottom of the box with long shredded paper and/or crumpled tissue paper and/or crumpled up newspaper and/or crumpled up magazine paper and/or kitchen roll and place the bouquet in the nest with the flowers facing upwards. NEVER use plastic or bubble wrap over the top of your flowers as this will make your flowers hot and sweaty and encourage bacteria growth.

4. Please fill in around the bouquet to the top of the box in order to minimize movement of the bouquet during its journey. Make sure you do not crush or bruise your flowers in the process and do not put anything heavy inside the box that could damage your flowers.

5. Please write your name and wedding date on a piece of paper and attach it to the inside of the box with tape so that we know who the bouquet belongs to. If we have not already received your deposit, please include a cheque for £120 made payable to The Flower Preservation Studio Ltd and place it in an envelope again taped to the inside of the box.

6. Close and seal the box with heavy duty tape – cellotape is not strong enough.

7. Clearly write our details on the top of the box. The Flower Preservation Studio, Elm Grove, Hillbutts, Wimborne, BH21 4DS.

8. Write in large letters “FRAGILE – FRESH FLOWERS” and “THIS WAY UP” with arrows pointing up towards the top of the box. Please do not consider "Fragile" and "Handle with care" labels as a substitute for careful packaging. They are only appropriate for information purposes.

9. Ensure that your package is left at the correct designated collection point at the correct time/date for the courier.
